Command Master Chief relieved of his duties

Command Master Chief James A. Roberts

NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- A Command Master Chief of a guided-missile destroyer at Naval Station Norfolk, was relieved of his duties, Monday.

Command Master Chief James Roberts was relieved of his duties for the USS Laboon (DDG 58). He was relived by Capt. Derek Granger.

A prior investigation had been conducted due to allegations that Roberts created a toxic work environment and failed to follow Navy regulations and instructions from command.

Roberts has been Command Master Chief of the Laboon since September 2014. He will temporarily be reassigned to Commander, Naval Surface Force, Atlantic.

No word as to who the new Command Master Chief will be at this time.
