Colonial Williamsburg celebrates Women’s History Month with two new programs

Guests can experience the unique and complex stories of women during 18th century Virginia with the museum’s new programs 'Revolutionary Women' and 'Duty and Desire: The Governor’s Wife.'

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- In honor of Women’s History Month, Colonial Williamsburg is taking its visitors back in time to experience the lives of women during colonial days. 

The “Revolutionary Women” program will take guests through the livelihoods of 18th-century Virginian women, from their fashion to their legal rights. This program is included with regular admission and will be offered daily at 11 a.m. 

The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation is also offering the Governor’s Palace through the eyes of the first lady with “Duty and Desire: The Governor’s Wife.” This program will showcase how three governors' wives used their personalities to shape their role as first lady. It will be offered Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. Special tickets must be purchased for this program. 

Additionally, Colonial Williamsburg offers a number of year-long programs focusing on women’s history. Historic sites are open 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through March 16 and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. starting March 17. The art museums are available from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and daily on Friday and Saturday.
