PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WVEC) -- The Coast Guard helped rescue a man near Norfolk Thursday afternoon.

According to The Coast Guard, Watchstanders at Sector Hampton Roads in Portsmouth learned of a disabled 22-foot Bayliner around 1:15 p.m. The boat had lost power and was in the vicinity of the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel.

The Coast Guard launched a 29-foot response boat from Station Portsmouth. They arrived to help the man within 15 minutes.

When crews were able to speak with the man aboard the boat, they learned it did not have an anchor. The boat was towed to the docks at Wiloughby Marina.

"Boaters should never get underway without an anchor," said Petty Officer 2nd Class Anton Jelsma, a response boat crewman on the case.
