NEWPORT NEWS -- The Board of Visitors for Christopher Newport University voted Monday to raise tuition and fees for the coming school year.

For 2010-2011, in-state undergraduate students will pay an additional $1,300 or 7.5 percent; out-of-state student rates will go up 8.3 percent or $2,100.

Officials say the increases will generate $3,325,000 and will help offset the loss of state funds.
