CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Malique Hawkins has a good problem on his hands right now.
The Grassfield High School senior was accepted into 15 different colleges, but he can only choose one.
“Excellence is the standard,” said Hawkins, referring to a quote he learned in Kindergarten. “Mediocrity is unacceptable and failure is not an option.”
The 17-year-old has a 4.43 GPA, he scored 1440 on his SAT and was this year’s homecoming king.
There are too many clubs, awards, and other accomplishments to name, but they’ve all helped Hawkins bring in more than a million dollars in offered academic scholarship money.
“When I got the scholarship offers, that was really exciting,” said Hawkins.
He hasn’t committed to a school yet, but his final four choices are the University of Miami, Georgia Tech, High Point University, and North Carolina A&T, where he was offered a full-ride academic scholarship.
Hawkins is also a year younger than most of his classmates after being moved up in Kindergarten.
Hawkins said he wants to pursue business, so he can further establish himself as an entrepreneur.
He already has his own clothing line, The Movement, which takes a stand against bullying, suicide, racism, and violence.
