ACCOMACK CO -- An arrest has been made in the murder of an Eastern Shore man last month.

Belarmino Escalante, 27, of Greenbush was found dead in the grass near the old Godwin's Nursery on Lankford Highway in the early morning hours of July 21.

He was shot, according to friends, when a group of people tried to sell him and his co-workers marijuana. Escalante and fellow employees were waiting for a ride to the Perdue plant.

Sheriff Todd Godwin said Devonte LeShawn Davis, 18, was arrested Monday following an investigation by the Accomack County Sheriff's Office, Eastern Shore Drug Task Force, and the Accomack County Juvenile Services.

Davis, who lives in Melfa, is charged with First Degree Murder, Conspiracy to Commit Robbery, Attempted Robbery, Use of Firearm in Commission of Attempted Robbery, and Possession of Firearm by Convicted Felon.

Rodriguez moved to the Eastern Shore 10 years ago. He's survived by his wife and 4 young children.
