'All clear' given for 'Active shooter situation' at KY college

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS) - An "all clear" has been given at Jefferson Community and Technical College in Louisville, Kentucky, after reports of an "active shooter situation" on Friday afternoon..

Authorities have not disclosed any other information, but multiple units are on the scene.

An emergency text alert sent by the city read:

JEFFERSON TECH Violent Incident sent 3:39 PM Fri, Oct 9. -Use caution to evacuate safely or seek cover in locked room if possible.

The school then sent out the following text alert:

The all clear has been given for our Technical Campus and the lockdown has been lifted. "JEFFERSON Technology All Clear sent 4:23 PM Fri, Oct 9. -Campus emergency is over. You may continue normal activity.

MPD Public Information Officer Dwight Mitchell addressed media saying that everyone was fortunate the situation did not turn into anything tragic.

According to Mitchell, eight different agencies responded to the JCTC building located at 8th and Chestnut.

Authorities responded quickly to a 911 call referring to possible shots fired or loud boom. Upon searching the building, as well as other JCTC buildings, authorities found no credible threat.

The search focused on the 8th St. building.

Criminal Justice College instructor Ishmon Burks said the staff and authorities responded swiftly.He said that everyone on campus was safe. The 8th St. building held 20 Pre-K students, who were the first evacuated and sent home.

Burks himself was in the 8th St. building, but said he did not hear any shots.The school's "snap alert" went out after the threat was reported. Burks was very happy with how the system worked.

There have been two school-related shootings that happened across the country today. One person was killed, and another injured in Houston, while one person is dead and three hurt in a shooting in Arizona.
