GLOUCESTER COUNTY, Va. (WVEC) -- Authorities say one person was arrested and three others are in the hospital after a vehicle accident in Gloucester County.

GLOUCESTER COUNTY, Va. (WVEC) -- Authorities say one person was arrested and another was flown to the hospital after a hit-and-run incident in Gloucester County Wednesday evening.

On May 31, around 6:01 p.m., Virginia State Police was called to a two-vehicle accident on Hayes Road in Hayes, Va.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2002 BMW, driven by Patricia Kieke-Fish, was traveling northbound on Hayes Road, when it was struck from behind by a 2000 Dodge pickup truck. The impact of the crash pushed the BMW into a utility pole.

The driver of the pickup truck, 54-year-old Albert Cecil Shaw Jr., of Gloucester, fled the scene hitting several mailboxes before stopping on a grassy shoulder, state police say.

Shaw and his two passengers fled the scene on foot. The Newport News Police Department's K9unit was called to the scene to assist in finding the suspects. All three people were found a short distance from the abandoned vehicle.

The driver of the BMW, Mrs. Hieke-Fish, suffered major injuries and was flown to Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News.

Shaw, the driver of the pickup truck was not injured. He was placed under arrest for DUI, felony hit and run, and following too closely. He was taken to the Gloucester County Jail where he was placed on a secured bond, police say.

The passengers of the pickup truck have been identified as Elizabeth Talbott, 29, and John Grogan, 36. Both suffered minor injuries and were charged with not wearing seatbelts.

Charges are pending on all three suspects based upon the Commonwealth Attorney's review of the case.
