NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Hampton Roads will soon have a new burger to munch on! Wayback Burgers will open its latest restaurant in Newport News come early 2024.
Owners and operators Altaf and Isabel Shaikh signed the lease for the 1,285-square-foot restaurant, which will be located at 12300 Jefferson Avenue, on Wednesday. It will be the fast food chain's fifth restaurant in the state of Virginia.
"After having a delightful experience at one [of] the Wayback Burgers locations in North Carolina, Isabel and I were inspired to open a Wayback Burgers location of our own,” said Altaf Shaikh. “We are thrilled to bring the Wayback Burgers dining experience to the Newport News community and look forward to sharing delicious menu items, especially our personal favorites, the Classic burger and the Apple Pie milkshake.”
The made-to-order burger joint offers both single and double-patty burgers, cheesesteaks, chicken sandwiches, veggie burgers, and a whole lot more. Customers can also expect to get a bite of the chain's crowd-favorite "Cheeeesy" and its hand-dipped milkshakes made with Blue Bunny ice cream and milk.

The restaurant will feature what the owners are calling "a lighter and brighter elevated dine-in experience" as customers will be able to watch their food be prepared behind glass windows separating the kitchen from the main dining area.
