NORFOLK, Va. — With Thanksgiving right around the corner, the Norfolk Sheriff's Office is stepping up to help families in need.
Norfolk Sheriff Deputies spent the morning donating and delivering turkeys throughout the City of Norfolk.
"You know, with inflation being as high as it is you know, people are trying to make ends meet and put together a Thanksgiving meal," said Sheriff Joseph Baron of Norfolk Sheriff's Office.
Tuesday morning, Norfolk Sheriff's deputies gathered outside the Norfolk City Jail to pack one hundred of those turkey dinners, including side dishes.
This effort has been a Norfolk Sheriff's Office tradition for more than a decade.
“We are trying to make a positive difference, you know, create that relationship with the community that’s positive and at the same time really trying to help people," said Sheriff Baron.
Each meal is carefully taken from the cars of Norfolk Sheriff's deputies and delivered right to the doors of neighbors such as Carolyn Harris.
“It will make a big difference. It will make us happy, you know, getting together," said Harris.
Other recipients, such as Louis Britt, believe the meal's arrival shows someone bigger is watching out for her.
“It’s all about thanking God for another year and thanking him that he provided you all to do this for us," said Louis Britt.
The sponsors for this event include the Sheriff Joe Baron Foundation, Summit Foods, Keefe, Wegman's, Little Lily Ministries, and Thomas Mayhew.
