'Operation Wish List' distributes toys, spreads hope for children in Norfolk

The program aims to give hope and create memories for children who have had life-altering experiences.

NORFOLK, Va. — A local nonprofit, the "My Help My Hope Foundation," is spreading some holiday cheer in Norfolk.

The group on Friday held its annual "Operation Wish List" distribution and is granting wishes for hundreds of children in need this season. The program aims to give hope and create memories for children who have had life-altering experiences.

According to a news release from the program, families across the region are referred from local shelters, transitional houses, foster care, community service boards, schools, social services, and other agencies.

Those families were gifted with the toys donated by the community.

Recently, the program has focused on helping families experiencing domestic violence and homelessness. Operation Wish List said the goal is to take the trauma off of the families' minds for a little while and allow them to enjoy Christmas.

My Help My Hope sends 100% of its contributions directly to the women and children they support.
