NORFOLK, Va. — Start 2025 off right by preventing alcohol-related crashes.
Local road safety nonprofit Drive Safe Hampton Roads (DSHR) is offering free or reduced Lyft rides on New Year’s Eve to ensure local residents have a safe ride home from their festivities.
DSHR’s 757 Sober Ride campaign provides a $15 Lyft voucher for area residents 21 and older who are celebrating with alcohol or drugs that could impair their ability to drive.
The New Year’s Eve Sober Ride promo code will be posted to their website at 10 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2024 and will be valid until 4 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2025. It can only be used for rides originating from or with a destination in Hampton Roads.
To redeem the voucher, download the Lyft app and enter the code under the “Add Lyft Pass” option located under the “Payment” tab.
“It is critical that anyone heading out to a bar or party to plan for a sober driver to see them home safely,” said Jonathan Turner, 757 Sober Ride Chairperson. “We want drivers to take this night seriously. Driving drunk is deadly, and it's preventable. No one should ever take that risk.”
Last New Year’s Eve, there were 12 alcohol-related crashes across Hampton Roads, resulting in 8 injuries.
DSHR has been working for more than 36 years to raise community awareness and reduce injuries and deaths from vehicle crashes. Since its 2022 Cinco De Mayo Campaign, 757 Sober Ride has provided 3,293 safe rides home across 23 different campaigns.
