Hampton Roads family gets an early Christmas surprise, thanks to Angel Tree program

With the help of Pyramid Roofing, 13News Now helped a family in need. Freda Miles' cousin passed away in 2021 and she became the new guardian of her cousin's kids.

NORFOLK, Va. — 13News Now is teaming up with the Salvation Army once again to help spread holiday cheer to families across Hampton Roads. This time we're helping a family who experienced a sudden loss.

Through the Angel Tree campaign, the Salvation Army helps donate Christmas gifts for children in need. And 13News Now had the chance to meet some of the families behind those angels, including the Miles family.

Freda Miles' cousin passed away in February 2021 and she became the new guardian of her cousin's children.

"I always said I was going to be the auntie that had a van that took the kids out on vacations and stuff and would go places... [but] having no help it is a lot," she explained.

13News Now and Pyramid Roofing got together for a second interview to give Freda and her kids some early Christmas presents along with a $1500 check for some holiday fun money.

You can help other families in need have holiday fun by going to the Salvation Army's site.

You can watch the full gifting in the video player above.
