A local family is surprised with holiday cheer

13News Now, the Salvation Army and Apex Entertainment teamed up to surprise a local family.

NORFOLK, Va. — 13News Now is teaming up with the Salvation Army once again to help spread holiday cheer to families across Hampton Roads. This time we're helping a local mom give her four daughters a Christmas they'll never forget.

Through the Angel Tree campaign, the Salvation Army helps donate Christmas gifts for children in need. And 13News Now had the chance to meet some of the families behind those angels, including Nyeema Ware and her family.

"It's been a journey," Ware said. "I got down here and I was pregnant with my third daughter, the fourth one was a surprise. She had a heart condition, and she wasn't supposed to live past two weeks. In August, she'll be four. It's a lot, and as a single mom, it's a lot to handle."

13News Now teamed up with Apex Entertainment got together to gift the family with items off of their Christmas list and surprised them with not only toys but also $1,500 to help with holiday expenses.

You can watch the full gifting in the video player above.
