NORFOLK, Va. — Super Bowl LVII is just days away and as you plan your menus for the big game, it's important to keep in mind that the prices of some of our favorite snacks have gone up because of rising inflation in 2023.
If you plan to host a game day party this year, the cost of groceries is up slightly at 1.3%, according to the Consumer Price Index.
If you're headed out to watch the game, maybe at your favorite bar or restaurant, you're going to pay a whopping 5.2% more than you did last year.
Now let's talk about the cost of some of the game day snack staples: Americans are expected to eat nearly one and a half billion chicken wings over Super Bowl weekend.
The USDA reports the price of fresh wings is down 5% compared to 2023 and if you get them frozen, you'll save as much as 11%.
For shrimp cocktails, you'll save a bit too: the cost of fresh shrimp is down more than 6%, an average of $8.84 a pound.
When it comes to the cost of a burger -- or maybe some nachos -- you're going to be paying more this year. With record-low cattle numbers across the country, the cost of beef is up nearly 12%
Chips and dip for the nachos are also more expensive. A bag of tortilla chips costs around 6% more than it did last January.
