SMITHFIELD, Va. — With Christmas just around the corner, Smithfield Foods is helping feed families across Hampton Roads and the surrounding areas with its "Hams for the Holidays."
On Saturday, the company handed out 1,000 Smithfield Spiral Sliced Hams for free to community members. In addition to the hams, Kroger grocers pitched in and provided 1,000 grocery bags packed with holiday side items.
"We're really excited about serving the needs, making sure the communities that we live, we work and where we raise our families in are healthy and vibrant. And this is just one part of the activities," said one organizer.
The individuals who were gifted the holiday meal were identified as someone at risk of food insecurity, according to Smithfield Foods.
"We want to make sure these holiday meals go to the people in our community who need them most," Smithfield Foods explained in a release.
