Shake Shack opens new Newport News location

The famous burger joint held its ribbon-cutting ceremony at 12103 Jefferson Avenue on Wednesday morning.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Shake Shack announced a new location has opened in Newport News on Wednesday.

The fast food and frozen custard joint held its ribbon-cutting ceremony at 12103 Jefferson Avenue at 10:45 a.m.

The restaurant chain's fourth Virginia location also collected food donations for the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank during the grand opening and donated $1 from each burger sold during Wednesday's event.

"During training, we had representatives from the Foodbank coming down and we were able to give away that food so that we could help feed our community," said Shake Shack Area Director for DC and Southern Virginia, Sarah Maina.

She added, "We do 'donation days' where we encourage our community to partner with us, and 25% of all the money that's raised on that donation day actually goes to that charitable partnership."

Shake Shack has over 330 locations throughout the United States and is well-known for its burgers and milkshakes.
