Tacos, desserts, cocktails and more: Beloved Norfolk restaurant Union Taco opens Chesapeake location

Whether it's for the food, dessert, or drinks, Union Taco hopes to have you come in and experience the goodness for yourself.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Editor's note: This story is a part of our "Friday Flavor" series.

Union Taco has moved in at Summit Point! The popular Norfolk spot decided to spread its wings and open another location in Chesapeake.

"So this is 2.0," owner Kevin Dugan laughed.

Dugan started this spot with his business partner and co-owner, Bryan Connolly.

"We have a passion for the business, and if you don't, this is not the business for you," Dugan said.

You can see the passion on the walls in this Chesapeake location. It's the same vibe as Norfolk but much bigger. The tequila wall stands tall, too.

"We don't do anything normal here," General Manager Daniel Plott said.

"As our name states, it's a union of flavors. So, we take that and just jump off the deep end," Plott added.

They serve many options. Tacos, of course, but they go beyond tacos. Their braised lamb falls off the bone. Their bowls are large, filling, and full of flavor. They also have unique desserts and appetizers.

However, you should try the tacos, because they are flavorful and delicious. "The number one thing is the Prito Hipon taco," said Plott, referring to a shrimp-based taco. It's a little sweet, a little spicy and oh-so-delicious.

"Of course, our staple, the carne asada taco you can't go wrong with it," Plott added.

If you aren't going for the food, maybe go for a cocktail. You can't miss the giant tequila wall as soon as you walk in. "We are constantly adding to that wall and we'll continue to until no one has a better selection than the Union Taco brand," Dugan said.

So, whether it's for the food, dessert, or drinks, Union Taco hopes to have you come in and experience the goodness for yourself.

"There's something about us that's just different," Plott smiled.

To check it out for yourself you can visit the Chesapeake location a 515 Belaire Avenue. The Norfolk location is at 218 West 25th Street.
