Hampton Roads residents share big goals for their 2024 New Year's resolutions

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — It’s a new year, and maybe that means a new you?

January 1st is when people like to set a goal to achieve -- or several -- before December 31 rolls back around.

2023 is a year some people will never forget. No matter what happened last year, the start of 2024 offers a clean slate. Fitness goals may come to mind when you think of New Year’s resolutions.

“We are going to get fit, even more fit, and that is our resolution for this year," said Sandra Johnson.

Several people started their January 1 at Mount Trashmore in Virginia Beach to jump-start healthy resolutions.

“Going to the gym, but not sure how long will it sustain!" said Manoj Karri.

“Keep running, injury-free," said Kim Turner.

“Get more exercise, that’s why I’m here," said Marc Denosta, who is also keeping loved ones in mind. “Spend more time with my family," he added.

“It’s about fixing what’s within and making sure you have adequate time with family and friends," said Michelle Ventura.

Some folks even say 2024 is the year to do things that make them happy.

“Not to postpone things," Karri said.

“My resolution is to set boundaries," said La Toya Sivells. "I feel like I didn’t set enough boundaries in 2023, so this year I am setting boundaries.”

“The biggest thing on my mind is doing what I think is right, regardless of what other people think," said Jeremy Snyder.

Everyone strives to make their New Year’s resolution last. The American Psychological Association recommends that people start small when thinking of a new resolution, change one behavior at a time, and tell friends and family about their goals.
