Lauren Fenty collects Halloween candy for troops overseas

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A John B. Dey Elementary School fourth-grader encouraged her community to bring Halloween to troops overseas and collected over 770 pounds of candy for troops.

Lauren Fenty is the brains behind 'Treats for Troops'. The purpose of the project was to collect and send Halloween candy to deployed military personnel.

Lauren lost her father in Afghanistan when she was just 28-days-old.

"I would like for kids at John B. Dey to donate their extra Halloween candy to deployed military service members. Those deployed are away from their families, and many will enjoy a taste of home," Lauren said.

With the help of her mother, Kristen Fenty, Lauren contacted the Kool Smiles Dental Practice on Holland Road and was able to create a launch plan, including announcements, web postings, an incentive plan for student participation and a personally crafted letter.
