NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Dunk it. Twist it. Celebrate it! Whether you prefer classic or Double Stuf, or you're up for trying any new flavor that comes along, March 6 is National OREO Day.

The celebration falls on the birthday of the cookie, which was introduced in 1912 and sold for the first time in Hoboken, New Jersey. It was packaged in bulk tins, and grocers paid just 30 cents a pound for the sandwiches.

As Mondelēz International, the current manufacturer of the iconic treat, says on its website: "...now this cream-filled sandwich cookie is a favorite of consumers around the globe. Today, Oreo is available in many flavors and varieties, such as chocolate covered, wafers, pie crusts and soft snack cakes."

To mark National OREO Day, Mondelēz International is giving away one million OREO Chocolate Candy Bars to the first million people who register to receive one. Those people will receive a coupon for a free OREO Chocolate Candy Bar.
