NORFOLK -- It's a Spring tradition in Hampton Roads -- the sights and sounds of the Virginia Arts Festival.

From concerts to parties to the International Tattoo, there are plenty of events on Southside and the Peninsula to get your arts juices flowing.

Two favorites are the Bluebeard Castle and the International Tattoo.

The Tattoo is a tribute to this country's military servicemen and women and their families. The pomp and pagentry of this annual event has thrilled ticketholders for years. Dates for the tatoo, which takes place inside Norfolk Scope: Thursday, April 23 at 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 24 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, April 25 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 26 at 2:30 p.m.

Live performances include Major Tom and Bartok's Bluebeard's Castle, featuring renowned Chihuly glass works made exclusively for the opera. Béla Bartók's Bluebeard's Castle is the murderous tale of Bluebeard and his new wife Judith's introduction to his lurid past. Bartók envisioned seven doors, behind each a secret to be revealed — and in this stunning production the seven doors are towering works of glass and light by Chihuly. It's all about murder, intrigue and art.

Performances are Saturday, April 18 at 8 p.m., Sunday, April 19 at 3 p.m. at Chrysler Hall.
