NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- After 26 years of contributing to just about every newscast and program at 13News Now, breaking news anchor and reporter Sandra Parker is leaving her home here.
During her time at 13News Now, Sandra became a beloved part of viewers' lives and became a beloved colleague and friend to those who worked with her, something she always will remain.
Before Sandra came to 13News Now in 1990, she was a reporter and fill-in anchor at WVIR in Charlottesville, Va.
Sandra, a proud graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University and Cox High School in Virginia Beach, always enjoyed being able to serve the people in her hometown area.
Much of that service goes beyond the on-air work many people had the chance to watch.
Sandra is an avid supporter of the of the Southeastern Virginia chapter of the Alzheimer's Association and the Salvation Army, and serves on the executive leadership council of the American Cancer Society.
Sandra's time at 13News Now found her bringing a number of big stories home to Hampton Roads including the bombing of the Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Okla. in 1995. She was with local FEMA Team VA-TF 2 on that trip as well as when they went to the Pentagon after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
For years, Sandra also asked people, "Does it work?" as she teamed up with viewers in their homes, testing products to see if the items lived up to their promised benefits or performance.
Sandra lives in Virginia Beach with her husband, John, and their 9-year-old son with whom she is looking forward to sharing time on a schedule that is more "normal" than the one you often find working in television news.
We know everyone joins all of us here at 13News Now in wishing Sandra the best in what she calls her next "adventure."
