VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Holiday festivities are in full swing and in the spirit of giving back, one group held a "Party with a Purpose."
On Saturday evening, a few of the 13News Now Daybreakers came together with a goal to make the holiday season bright for families in the community. Paula Beckett organized the Virginia Beach event that aimed to bring toys that will be donated to families.
"That's my mission and that's my gift," she said. "God has given me to be able to create events like that so we can give back."
The Daybreakers collected toys for the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program and held a raffle to raise money.
"I really believe that in this day and time, nobody should go hungry. Everybody should have something to eat," Beckett said.
The Daybreakers chatted and snapped photos together. Even Mayor Bobby Dyer showed up to the event!
While the "Christmas Party with a Purpose" allowed Beckett to connect with other 13News Now Daybreakers, she said it was also a time to give back to the community.
"If I can make the difference in making that happen that's exactly what I'm going to do with my partners, the Channel 13 Daybreakers," she said.
