Annual One Love Festival scheduled at Virginia Wesleyan

NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Setting aside differences, and standing together for peace.

That is the goal of Virginia Wesleyan College's 11th Annual One Love Festival.

It's scheduled for October 1st on the Norfolk campus. The "world's largest drum circle" and a special evening concert are just some of the events planned.

The day's activities will take place between 1 and 9 p.m.

Activities planned:

  • Why World Peace is Possible: Exploring the Anatomy of Violence and War, a lecture by Paul K. Chappell, Director, Nuclear Age Peace Foundation. 1:00 – 2:20 p.m., Monumental Chapel. Sponsored by Bishop Walter F. Sullivan Pax Christi Community of Hampton Roads.
  • Standing Together in a Culture of Fear Town Hall Discussion moderated by Barbara Hamm Lee, host and executive producer of “Another View” radio program heard Fridays on WHRV 89.5 FM. 2:30 – 4:00 p.m., Boyd Dining Center. Registration is requested at whro.org/talkaboutrace. Sponsored by the Center for the Study of Religious Freedom at VWC, WHRO Public Media, and the Fort Monroe Authority.
  • Largest Drum Circle in the World led by Arthur Lopez of DrumYourDream.com. 4:00 – 5:30 p.m., Batten Center Grille. A rhythm-based shared experience, occurring around the world, designed to gather the community to drum for peace. No experience necessary. There will be instruments to share, or bring your own hand drums or percussion instruments.
  • Evening Concert to include Sharon & The Peace Project, Atumpan, Teens with a Purpose, Hampton Roads Boys’ Choir, and 3 Lives 4 Peace. 6:15 – 9:00 p.m., Batten Center Grille
