VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Fair-trade goods, vegan food, and unique homemade items. To think this is all at a juice shop by the Oceanfront.
Jacki Welch opened The Green Cat Juice Bar and Market in 2015 and describes it as a juice shop with a twist.
"Whether it be through the mural or the food, it is just a beautiful collective opportunity to showcase a lot of artists," said employee Tanya Hurwitz.
"We wanted to create an environment of fair-trade goods and unique homemade items in addition to all of the food and drinks being plant-based," said manager Ashlie Bell.
They sell beautiful handmade jewelry, clothing, books and their company shirts have the logo of the giant colorful mural on the side of their building.
Everything at The Green Cat Juice Bar and Market is vegan, gluten-free and organic.
Take a look at their home-made vegan chilli. You heard that right, there's no meat in it.
The Green Cat has incorporated various items to their market, its juices are the main attraction. That's where it all began.
"All of our juices ... have fresh ingredients. There's certain ones that maybe appeal to people for different things. We have one called the 'Gingerella.' Another one called the 'Spicy Gypsy' that's sort of good for a detox," Bell said.
In case you were wondering where the name "Green Cat" came from? As a child, Welch's grandmother gave her a pillow with a green cat on it, so when the idea of opening a shop came around, she knew exactly what she wanted to name it.
