Chrysler Museum rolls out holiday events for December

The Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk is celebrating the holidays with a number of festive events over the coming weeks.

NORFOLK, Va. — Mark your calendars! The Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk is celebrating the holidays with a number of festive events over the coming weeks.

Kicking things off is the Chrysler's fifth annual Bake Off on Thursday, Dec. 7 where bakers, young and old, will create a delicious dessert based on a piece of art in the museum's extensive collection. In addition to the sweet treats, guests are welcome to join gallery talks about the pieces of art featured in the bake-off, signature craft cocktails, and live music. The "just for fun" bake-off begins at 6:15 p.m. and ends at 7:30 p.m.

Then on Saturday, Dec. 9, "experience the sounds of the holidays" with the Huber Court Performance: Bells of Providence, a five-octave handbell choir. Performances will include classical and jazz holiday music from 1 to 2 p.m.

Those looking to try their hand at a craft are encouraged to join the Chrysler's class to create and sculpt a glass "Holiday Snowman" on Sunday, Dec. 17. Attendees will "learn how to shape molten glass and create a hot sculpted snowman," according to the event's page. The class is open for anyone age 12 and older and is $64 for Museum members and $80 for non-members.

In need of some last-minute holiday decor? The Chrysler has you covered with its "Hot Glass: Ornament Spectacular" on Saturday, Dec. 23 where attendees will create a blown glass ornament. Classes are on a rolling basis every 15 minutes between 10 and 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 and 5 p.m. It costs $49 for Museum members and $60 for non-members.

Beyond the holiday festivities, the Chrysler is hosting Paul McCartney's personal photo collection of The Beatles as they launched into international stardom in 1963 and 1964. The exhibit, titled "Paul McCartney Photographs 1963–64: Eyes of the Storm" will be on display until April 7, 2024.
