Small plane crashes, flips upside down at Williamsburg airport

The pilot was able to get himself out of the wreckage and was taken to an area hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — A pilot is recovering after his small, single-engine plane crashed while landing on Friday afternoon.

According to Virginia State Police, Robert Walden of Fayetteville, Georgia, was approaching the runway at Williamsburg-Jamestown Airport when he reportedly had issues. The plane, a VANS RV Sport model, crashed and flipped upside down.

Walden was able to get himself out of the aircraft and was taken to Riverside Doctors' Hospital in Williamsburg for non-life-threatening injuries.

The FAA is on scene and the NTSB has also been notified to conduct a crash investigation.
