VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- It's bottoms up in Virginia Beach where a new Smartmouth Brewing location is opening Saturday.
Some were lucky enough to get an early preview.
Smartmouth Brewery is opening it's second location. The first one is in Norfolk, and the new location is headed to Virginia's largest city, Virginia Beach. It's address is at 313 32nd Street.
"I really think that shows our commitment to Hampton Roads," said Smartmouth's community engagement coordinator, Chris Neikirk.
The company transformed this 9,450 square-foot building from a U.S. Post Office to its new brew-house. The space has a new 10 barrel brewery system and twice the space for a tasting room.
Porter Hardy is the president of Smartmouth Brewery. He said he knows this community well since he grew up here in Virginia Beach.
"This was my post office as a kid, so it's funny I remember coming here with my mom," said Hardy.
He said each beer and even the building's name, called the Pilot House, have layers of meanings behind them.
Hardy said the Pilot House is "a nod to military and nautical roots but also a pilot batch and bring is your experimental batch."
Hardy is anxiously excited to open the doors to this new space that's taken a year and a half to make.
Most importantly, with its award winning beers, and new brews on tap for the community.
"Hopefully they'll see that it's got its own unique flavor not I mean I guess literally and figuratively," said Hardy.
A couple of new flavor the community can try at the grand opening include the 'First: IPA,' and the Crooked Cane Candy Cane Stout.
On Saturday , Mayor Will Sessoms will cut the ribbon for the Pilot House grand opening when the doors will open at noon.
