Virginia Beach Police officer dies while on duty

Sad news. Virginia Beach Master Police Officer Kelvin Bailey died after suffering a heart attack Friday night.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) — A Virginia Beach Police officer died after suffering a heart attack Friday, Public Affairs Officer Tonya Pierce said.

MPO Kelvin Bailey suffered the heart attack while he was on duty, Pierce said.

They received the emergency call just before midnight, she said. He died at the hospital around 1 a.m.

Bailey was working an off-shift job but was in uniform and working as a P.O., so it is considered an in-the-line-of duty death.

Bailey went to work for the department in 1992 after working for four years for the Virginia Beach Sheriff's Office.

"He was one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. I never saw him mad at anyone," Pierce said.

"He always had a smile on his face. He'll be missed by so many people."

Bailey was 51 years old, and leaves behind family.
