PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WVEC) — An inmate at Hampton Roads Regional Jail has passed away.
Jail officials said 65-year-old David Chatfield died Thursday night at a local hospital. He had been at HRRJ since October 31, where he was awaiting trial for assault and battery charges out of Newport News.
At some point, he suffered a medical emergency and jail staff rushed him to the hospital.
The jail and Portsmouth Police say they are investigating his death.
