NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- The home of the Old Dominion University Monarchs will be getting bigger as the school prepares to rebuild and expand S.B. Ballard Stadium.
An ODU spokesman said Friday the construction would begin in the summer and it would end before the football team's home opener for the 2019 season.
Jon Cawley said the project, which will enhance seating and add modern amenities to the stadium, will not us state funding or require an increase in student fees. Athletic revenue, private funding, and bond proceeds will pay for the construction.
Cawley added that the first phase of the $65 million project will address recommendations made by fans in survey conducted in 2016. When work is completed, the stadium will have more than 21,000 seats.
