Police identify man shot and killed in Hampton

Hampton police are investigating a shooting where one man was killed Saturday afternoon.

HAMPTON, Va., (WVEC) -- A man was shot and killed at an apartment complex Saturday afternoon.

Around 1:36 p.m., officers were called to Colonial Pembroke apartments in the 2100 block of East Pembroke Avenue to a report of a shooting.

Officers found a man with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. Police have identified the victim as Lawrence Antoine Fuller.

According to a press release issued by the Hampton Police Department, it appears that all parties involved have been identified and are known to each other.

Police arrested 23-year-old Miquel Johnston in connection with the shooting. Johnston faces multiple charges including murder.

Neighbor Michael Strother said he heard two shots fire off in the apartment beneath his, and that’s when he looked over his terrace and saw the victim.

"He ran out and he made a left and he collapsed on the ground. And when he ran out, I saw an exit wound in his back,” said Strother.

Strother said the man was hit by at least two bullets, and was unable to talk.

That’s when Strother jumped in to help.

“I was steadily applying pressure, hopefully to save his life,” said Strother. Nearby neighbor Jasper Davis didn’t witness the shooting, but is concerned for the neighborhood.

"A bullet doesn't have a name on it, so I'm just saying I could have been walking, or one of my neighbors next door to me could have been walking by. We could have got hit by that bullet,” said Davis.
