Three adults and one child are out of their home after a fire broke out Tuesday morning in Chesapeake.
Firefighters were called to the 2100 block of Isabella Drive in the Western Branch part of the city around 5:41 a.m. Arriving crews found heavy fire and smoke coming from the two-story house.
The fire was brought under control just after 6:30, with it being completely extinguished by 7:02 a.m.
All four occupants made it out safely. Firefighters found four cats hidden inside the home, but three had died. The fourth survived and is expected to be OK.
One firefighter was evaluated and released at the scene.
The Red Cross is assisting the residents with a place to stay.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
