Newport News police stopped car, found $150K worth of heroin

The driver, Brad Clark Jr., was driving below the speed limit and had a broken side mirror. Officers searched the car and found about 150 grams of heroin.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Newport News police stopped a man for going slower than the speed limit, and for having a broken side mirror on Monday.

Police officers pulled the driver over at the Travelers Inn Motel in the 6000 block of Jefferson Avenue. Officers smelled marijuana, and the driver, 33-year-old Brad Clark Jr. of the 500 block of 14th Street in Newport News, was detained.

Newport News South Precinct Officers searched his vehicle and found marijuana residue and a significant amount of suspected heroin. They confiscated 150 grams of heroin and said its street value is about $150,000.

Officers also found about $700 in cash in the car.

Clark was driving with a suspended license.

Officers arrested Clark and charged him with possession with intent to distribute a schedule I or II drug, possession of marijuana, driving while revoked, and defective equipment.

Clark is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on Wednesday.
