Girl Scouts: Opportunity for girls to enjoy two local state parks

The first-ever Girls Scouts Love State Parks happens July 13-14.

NORFOLK, Va. — The Girl Scouts Council of the Colonial Coast and Girl Scouts of the USA announced the first-ever Girl Scouts Love State Parks weekend.

In collaboration with the National Association of State Park Directors, the local Girl Scouts will host organized groups at two local state parks.

On July 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at York River and Chippokes State Park and on July 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Jockey's Ridge State Park.

This gives an opportunity for girls, their families, and those interested in joining Girl Scouts to experience the outdoors, which is part of the organization's all-girl leadership program.

Studies show that 71% of members ages 8-14 tried their first outdoor activity with the organization and half would not have had access to outdoor activities and programming without Girl Scouts.

With Girl Scouts Love State Parks, the organization wants to get even more girls outside.

The first 100 girls to register will receive a free patch. All girls who register as a new Girl Scout from June 1 to June 30 and attend GSLSP event will also receive a free patch. Participates can purchase exclusive event shirts and other merchandise at the Girl Scout Shop.
