VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Marine scientists are working to determine how and why two dead dolphins washed ashore in Virginia Beach on Friday.
A spokesperson for the Virginia Aquarium said one dolphin was found dead on the Chesapeake Bay shoreline, while the other was found in Sandbridge.
The Aquarium's Stranding Response team collected the animals and took them to the Darden Marine Animal Conservation Center, where they will undergo a postmortem exam and assessment.
If you find a marine animal injured, deceased, entangled, or in distress, the Virginia Aquarium says you can call its 24-hour hotline at 757-385-7575 to report the animal. The Aquarium urges you not to approach the animal or attempt to render aid without expert guidance.
